Engineering Manager

Summary
Lead multi disciplinary engineering teams delivering complex defence programmes with clear ownership and visibility. Shape technical solutions from bid through delivery while building credibility, influence and long term progression.

Where you will be based
This role is based in Dorset with a hybrid working pattern. Part time or condensed hours may also be considered depending on requirements. This is a permanent role.

What you will be working on

• Leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams across bids, projects and product development activities within a defence environment.
  • Owning the technical solution from concept through delivery, including scope definition, cost modelling, risk assessment and engineering plans.
  • Planning and delivering engineering work packages to agreed time, cost and quality targets using structured project and systems engineering methods.
  • Providing hands on technical leadership through design, test, verification and acceptance to ensure solutions are fit for purpose and compliant.
  • Coordinating resources, priorities and interfaces to resolve technical issues and maintain delivery momentum.
  • Reporting progress, risk and performance against cost, schedule and quality commitments to senior engineering and project stakeholders.

Your experience

• Degree level qualification in electrical or electronic engineering or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong background in electrical and electronic systems engineering within regulated or safety critical environments.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams or work packages without direct line management responsibility.
  • Practical understanding of engineering lifecycles, systems engineering processes and technical governance.
  • Experience applying standards such as EMC, electrical safety and compliance frameworks.
  • Background working as a supplier or systems integrator with exposure to estimating, costing and bid support.
  • Confident written and verbal communication skills including technical reporting, reviews and presentations.

What you will need

• Eligibility to obtain Security Check clearance, not required at application stage.
  • Strong engineering background with depth in electrical or electronic systems.
  • Experience leading engineering work packages, projects or bid activities.
  • Ability to apply structured engineering lifecycles and systems engineering principles.
