A leading independent engineering and systems consultancy is seeking a Nuclear Safety Engineer to join their expanding team. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to critical projects across the full lifecycle of nuclear facilities, supporting the journey to NetZero 2050. The client prides themselves on delivering innovative engineering solutions that make lives safer, more secure, sustainable, and affordable.
The successful candidate will provide essential technical expertise in safety assurance and process engineering, covering the design, construction, operation, maintenance, defuelling, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. This role requires a proven track record in assessing and justifying safety, drawing upon extensive experience and knowledge from nuclear or other high-hazard industries. You will engage with complex and significant nuclear safety-related challenges for a diverse client base, contributing from opportunity identification and bid creation through to project management and delivery.
Key responsibilities include developing and executing strategies for intricate nuclear challenges, producing high-quality technical documentation, and applying expertise across various nuclear technologies. You will also provide technical guidance and mentorship to colleagues and clients, manage projects to meet time, cost, and quality expectations, and actively seek out new business opportunities to establish and lead enduring client relationships. Projects could range from authoring top-tier nuclear safety case reports and establishing operational safety strategies to designing and commissioning plant items, performing risk assessments, and specifying decommissioning plans.
Candidates should possess demonstrable experience in nuclear safety case processes and submission production, alongside technical expertise in a relevant field such as mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering, C&I, hazards, or severe accidents. A track record of successful technical delivery, strong problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills are essential. While not mandatory, exposure to working in highly regulated or high-hazard industries, business development, and project management in a consultancy environment are highly desirable. A degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline, and professional chartership (or progression towards it), would also be beneficial.
The client offers a competitive salary dependent on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package. This includes 25 days holiday with an option to buy more, a company pension scheme, enhanced parental benefits, life assurance, private healthcare, and a performance-linked bonus. Flexible hybrid working is available, with options to be based in Bristol, Burton, Manchester, Warrington, or Glasgow, splitting time between the office, client sites, and home. The client actively supports professional development and membership fees to professional institutions.
If you are an enthusiastic and experienced Nuclear Safety Engineer looking to make a pivotal contribution within a dynamic and growing team, and are eligible for UK SC Security Clearance, please apply without delay.
