The Role: As a key member of our UK Safety Team, you will have the opportunity to engage in safety engineering activities, lead critical tasks, and manage projects. Your expertise will shape the future of rail safety, making a tangible impact on the industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership:
Lead safety-related projects across signaling, control, rail operations, infrastructure, electrification, software, human factors, and rolling stock.
Define and analyze safety and reliability requirements, conducting design safety and reliability assessments.
Hazard Management:
Identify and assess hazards, maintaining comprehensive hazard logs.
Develop safety arguments and safety cases, effectively communicating risk-related information to stakeholders.
Compliance and Best Practice:
Implement a consistent and auditable approach to identifying Safety and RAM requirements.
Advise clients on current best practices, including relevant legislation, standards (e.g., CENELEC 50126/50128/50129 and IEC 61508), and guidelines.
Stay abreast of European developments in risk assessment and management.
Business Development:
Contribute to new business development by identifying potential opportunities and participating in proposal creation.
About You:
Education and Professional Credentials:
University-educated with a degree in Engineering, Science, or equivalent.
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it).
Membership in relevant professional institutions (e.g., IET, SaRS, IRSE, IRO).
Experience:
Solid background in the UK Rail industry, ideally in safety-related roles (including experience beyond signaling and brakes).
Proficiency in preparing Safety Cases.
Track record in producing safety analyses (System Fault Tree Analysis, Event Tree Analysis, Common Cause Failure Analysis, etc.).
Familiarity with ALARP principles.
Effective Communication:
Ability to work collaboratively with clients, both in face-to-face meetings and through remote interactions.
Strong relationship-building skills and a proactive approach to identifying business opportunities.
Professional Integrity and Flexibility:
High personal integrity and professionalism.
Willingness to travel across the UK and potentially overseas to client offices.
